Milken Fellows get keys to the city

Fort Scott Mayor Jim Adams and City Manager Dave Martin presented the keys to the city to two Lowell Milken Center Fellowship recipients Tuesday morning at City Hall. Pictured from left to right are: Adams; Shekema Silveri, of Jonesboro, Ga.; Jeff Rudkin, of Bloomington, Ind; and Martin. Milken Center fellowships are awarded to educators who have distinguished themselves in teaching respect and understanding through project-based learning, or who have the potential to reach this distinction. The center selects the best teachers in country to collaborate with on projects that celebrate unsung heroes in history.

Nurse pinning ceremony

Fort Scott Community College student Stormy Carter smiles as she walks up to receive her nurse’s pin on Thursday evening from instructor Judy Nelson at the Danny and Willa Ellis Family Fine Arts Center. Carter was one of 24 nursing students who attended the pinning ceremony. The gold or silver pins are traditionally worn by nurses as part of their uniform and features the FSCC seal. Retirement fete

USD 234 Superintendent Rick Werling and his wife, Cathy, listen to a rendition of Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger,” performed by Winfield Scott second-graders at Werling’s retirement reception at Fort Scott Middle School Tuesday afternoon. More than 60 people attended the event, honoring Werlings’ 30-plus years of service to the district.
